iENTR

Our difference

Four things about iENTR that the incumbents cannot copy without becoming a different company.

01

The reader is not the cost. The install is.

A modern access control door reader is not expensive. Verkada publishes a price list and its AD34 door reader is USD $349. What costs money is what happens around it: the controller, the cable run, the electrician, the site visit and the schedule. Published industry figures put installation at roughly USD $1,200 to $2,500 per door and reseller pricing for one major cloud platform puts it at $1,500 to $2,000. iENTR removes that layer entirely, because there is nothing to install. You mount an iPad and you are finished.

02

The iPad is not a compromise. It is the same iPad they sell you.

Verkada's own visitor-management product, Verkada Workplace, runs on an iPad and is licensed at USD $3,600 per iPad per year, with a K-12 version at $1,500. iENTR Starter is NZD $49 a month, which is NZD $588 a year, for the same physical device at the same door. The difference is not the hardware. It is what a company with a distribution network has to charge to keep it fed.

03

On-device matching is an architecture, not a policy.

Most privacy claims in this category are policies: promises about what a vendor will not do with data it holds. iENTR's is structural. The face template is generated on the iPad and matched on the iPad. iENTR performs one-to-one verification only, confirming that a person is who they claim to be. It never runs one-to-many identification and never scans strangers against any list. An administrator can restrict an enrolled person's access, blocking or flagging them, which is an access decision about a known identity, not surveillance.

That distinction has a legal consequence worth knowing. Under the EU AI Act, Annex III classifies remote biometric identification as high risk, but expressly excludes systems "intended to be used for biometric verification the sole purpose of which is to confirm that a specific natural person is the person he or she claims to be." iENTR is on the excluded side of that line by design.

04

Everyone is catered for.

Face first is how most people will use iENTR, because it is the fastest way through a door. But every site can also run card, PIN and QR entry with identical features and the same entry record, so one system covers every person who walks up to it.

Sites that need a physical credential can design fully customised photo ID cards directly inside iENTR and print them for staff, contractors and visitors, with the card working as an entry and exit verification mode in its own right. Anyone who prefers not to enrol a face, whether for cultural, religious or personal reasons, uses a PIN or QR code with exactly the same access as everyone else.

This is deliberate design, not a concession. Privacy regulators in New Zealand, Australia and the UK all expect biometrics to come with a genuine alternative and iENTR ships that alternative as a first-class mode on every site. Choosing facial recognition with iENTR means every person is catered for from day one, including the ones who never enrol a face.

And one thing iENTR is not

iENTR is not a full building security platform. It does not do video surveillance, intrusion detection, elevator control, lift destination dispatch or wireless door hardware. If you need a hundred doors across a campus wired into a security operations centre, buy Gallagher or Verkada and they are both good at it.

iENTR is for the gate, the front door, the entrance, the reception desk. One door or a hundred sites, running on hardware you already own, at a price on a public web page.

Side by side

iENTR Traditional access control

Time to first door Under 30 minutes, self-service Weeks to months, scheduled around an installer
iPad-based visitor licences Included Verkada Workplace: USD $3,600 per iPad per year
Contract term Month to month Commonly annual. Alcatraz AI requires a five-year non-cancellable minimum
